Temperature Sensors

Albion Devices, Inc., has developed specialized AD590, Platinum (PT100) and Thermistor temperature sensors specifically for applications in rugged, industrial environments.

We can consider the development of compatible, custom designed sensors upon request.

We provide connectors according to your choice, including USB (Albion's proprietary "Fireball") for direct output to a PC or Laptop.

Chart shows typical response time of Albion's temperature sensors on various surfaces:

IS-type, GS-type sensor ( AD590 )

Similar to a 4-20mA loop sensor in that it passes a current proportional to the temperature.
Sensor needs +5-30 volts DC on the + connection and will pass 1 microamp for every degree C change
starting at absolute zero temp, so 20C is already 273.2 microamps. 21C is 274.2 microamps, etc.
So, a circuit would have to change this current into a voltage by running it through a load resistor. Albion uses a 1.74k ohm resistor as a load and this gives .475 volts.
Cables length up to 100 ft. Calibration of sensor/circuit required. +/- 1.5 degrees as purchased.

AD-type sensor

Uses a F3105 platinum sensor element which reads 100 ohms at 0C. It increases in value slightly for every degree C.  Room temp temps around 109 ohms. Standard table for these values is available on line (omega.com). The change factor, alpha, is .385.   It needs a standard platinum sensor input on the customer's equipment. No calibration of sensor required. About +/- .15C accuracy.
Cable length must be short otherwise wire resistance interferes with the temperature reading. This is overcome by using a 3 or 4-wire cable. Two of the wires are used to cancel the error introduced by the long wires. Maximum length 50 to 100 ft., depending on environment and application.
